So Sarah Ravens

I am such a huge fan of Sarah Ravens to the extent that sometimes I like to imagine I am her. So when Lyn said she was going to share her SR calendar with us every month that really wasn't enough for me, I had to have my own copy. There was a sale on Sarah's website so I got myself a calendar, currently hanging in the utility room and a diary, which would be really useful if I wasn't planning not to grow so much this year as we will be spending the summer in Italy.I also found this Amaryllis Sumatra on offer just right for growing in my vase and some hyacinth Woodstock greatly reduced, not the ones in the picture those I prepared earlier. And just in case you think I'm a complete spender, here is the Christmas cactus that was a cutting I took more than 30 years ago, still flowering every year, still gorgeous, Sarah would be so proud of me.

    I have a similar Christmas cactus, mine is grown from a cutting from nearly 20 years ago so is a decade younger though.

    You've reminded me that I bought a load of spring flowering bulbs which I've done nothing with. Wonder if they'll be OK for planting next autumn?

    I like Sarah Ravens too - we have a couple of her cookbooks with some fabulous recipes in them! Your Christmas cactus is rather impressive!

    Oh my! Amazing cactus! I have been so impressed with myself because I have a little Christmas cactus that was given me by a friend about 4 years ago...it's still alive and blooms! (It's in a 4 inch pot...so maybe I should re-pot it, right?) You've given me something to shoot for! Really, though, it's a big deal for me that I've had it this long...entering the hallowed halls of my home has genrally been a death sentence for any green living thing!

    I have two HUGE Christmas cactus that I've had for many years but they grow outwards instead of down as yours do. I wish they'd droop as they take up more and more space which I don't have!!! Their trunk is woody like a tree as well and that's what holds them up I guess.
    They are each about four feet across.

    Lovely burst of Spring colour on this rather dull, but not too cool (for us anyway!) day. One of my three winter cacti is in flower but the other two are being stubborn, as are my two amaryllis too, might try your forcing vase idea another year.
