On Friday afternoon I took my chum Pam to collect her car from the garage in the next village, only about 4 miles away and en route we called in at our lovely farm shop and gallery for a browse and a coffee, very nice. We then went to collect Pam's car, the garage is down a farm track which after the recent weather was quite pot holed and a little muddy. Finally I stopped in the village to drop some things at the charity shop before I collected a few provisions and came home. Fine, excellent little trip out.
Next morning Mr FF having taken a look at his car in daylight began the interrogation. He asked me how I had got mud on his clean car, I said I didn't know, he asked me if it had happened going to the garage, I said I didn't know. He asked me if it had happened driving along our back lane where tractors have been working in the field and bringing mud onto the road. I said I didn't know. It never occurred to me to stop and inspect the car regularly during the journey. He asked me if I had been driving too fast, I said no because I never drive fast. He then said I must have been driving fast because mud wouldn't have got onto the car if I was driving slowly. Hello, we live in the country, we have to drive on country roads, country, mud, they go together at this time of year.

I am now expecting a full government enquiry, once Sir John Chilcot has announced his findings on the war in Iraq he will be on this case. Pam will probably be called as a witness and I saw Mr FF speaking to our neighbour yesterday, presumably hoping he can cast some light on the matter. I did suggest to Mr FF that these things happen, for example I find that even if I empty the laundry basket, wash and iron our clothes, they still re-appear in the basket and I repeat the process. Same in the bathroom, I clean, we use it, I clean again. Such is life, I do not carry out a forensic analysis to find out where the dirt came from.
So there was a chill in the air this weekend and St Valentine certainly didn't visit our house. Sometimes I wonder if Mr FF loves his car more than he does me - that is not a question.
Oh dear. Hang in there. Bathrooms and cars get dirty. Everything has to be cleaned over and over. That's life, right? Just postpone Valentine's Day for a few more days--I'm sure you'll have a good one when the time comes!!
ReplyDeleteMen *rolling eyes*
ReplyDeleteI sometimes wonder if they'd like to put tracker devices onto us to see excatly what we do during the day.
40 years of marriage! I thought I was doing well @ almost 20 years.
Honestly men and their cars. They need to get a grip.
ReplyDeleteIf you live in the country, you get mud on the car. Full stop. I've lost count of the number of huge potholes we splash in and out of on a daily basis. Can you imagine if a large one you'd gone into had *gasp* splashed water up on a side window? *shudder*
You sound as if you were a great deal more patient than I would have been. I don't think I would have answered any of the questions. If I was feeling extra specially miffed I might have gone out and put muddy handprints on the bonnet too just be childish.
Sorry your V-Day nosedived like that.
Oh dear, poor you. Sorry you didn't have Cupid's arrows firing between you this weekend. Men can be so precious about their cars can't they? Hope things improve quickly. xx
ReplyDeleteOh dear! And I do know what you mean. And its not just cars!!
ReplyDeleteHang in there - and take your friend out again, I\m sure its as much your car as his!
Unbelievable, ha ha!
ReplyDeleteHe should see our car, I can't remember when either of us last washed it.
I think I would either have deliberately gone and thrown mud at his precious car, or else handed him bucket and cleaning cloths. If my husband were that precious about cars or anything other than me, we wouldn't still be together after 34 years I can tell you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pickle! At least he cares about his car. Mr P wouldn't let me take our car to the car wash in case it damaged the paintwork, but then again he kept forgetting to hand wash it. Therefore it was almost a year to the day that we bought the car that it got cleaned! Yuck! x
ReplyDeleteI couln't stop laughing. Lucky me Mr.FF doesn't see my car and Mr.Alfazema doesn't care. My car is never clean inside and out, except when it rains and washes it. Inside it always has crumbs and empty packs of milk and biscuits. Once in a while I clean it.
ReplyDeleteI hope it makes you feel better. You must be sure: your car is clean!
Alfazema
Well, what a Valentine surprise... heavens! Mr. FF sounds like my Father--one who is very obsessive about his car. I think my Mother got the same Valentine last year... LOL!Happily my hubby is very relaxed about cars in general and ours too. At least is was mud on your car, which can be washed off...and not something "worse"... Oh, dear! Hope you'll get that sweet Valentine's Day yet, Jenny! :o) ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteSounds like my hubby. If I ever report a fault with the car - like a knocking etc, he also starts on with the "what have you been doing to it? " speech!!!!!!! Men are wierd!
ReplyDeleteLol, please ask Mr FF on my behalf why he bought a white car in the first place if he has such a dislike of mud and dirt? And secondly, please tell him to apply his high and mighty morals to his study!! You have my sympathies as I married an Engineer too.
ReplyDeleteOh dear!! Not a good weekend!!
ReplyDeleteWe live in Canada on a dirt road and between the snow, ice and dirt from sanding the road, we are lucky if we can see out the car windows most days!!
Sound to me as if MrFF is spoiled!!! :)
Oh dear, oh dear! If only *they* had more to worry about sometimes. Hope he's over it now. Nice heart, all the same! Ros
ReplyDeleteOh dear, they do get so precious about their cars, don't they?! Your laundry analogy is still making me chuckle - I must remember that one for future use!
ReplyDeleteOh, this really made me chuckle out loud!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's the same with the shower - Mr Z&Z thinks that somehow it all magically gets cleaned up every week or so (that would be the same magic that empties the bins / puts out more loo rolls / pairs up socks .....
Miserable s*d.
ReplyDeleteYou should put him as a strong contender for the next grumpy old man award..
If he winges about a little mud, can you imagine what would happen if you scratched it!!! Ooooh, doesn't bear thinking about.
Did the car not get dirty when all the snow you had recently melted and became slushy then?
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose he even knew the date did he?
You will probably never visit my blog again - my husband actually washed my car at the weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh dear, sounds like you are well and truly miffed at Mr FF, hope he eats a big slice of humble pie......I didn't think the car looked that bad, that's just normal winter motoring dirt:-) Hopefully Cupid has visited you and restored harmony
ReplyDeleteMud on the car? One of life's little mysteries. Just like the crumbs that appeared on the kitchen floor after the mister here had swept it.
ReplyDeleteOh Jenny this was hysterical to read ( but not to go through, I'm sure!)
ReplyDeleteThankfully my husband is not too obsessive about a clean car ..so hard to keep it clean here even if it is just parked in front of the house!
Boys and their toys! My husband is quite the opposite - I have to beg him to get the car washed (we go to one of those drive-thrus or handy d-i-y car wash establishments). And of course in this sort of weather the car never gets washed for a good couple months...what's the point? It'll only get dirty again!
ReplyDeleteAt 23 years of marriage for us, believe me when I say, you gotta hit him where it hurts...if you know what i mean....and I think you do. HA!! :)
ReplyDeleteThat does sound a bit rude. Indeed, when one loves a car (and a person), they shouldn't get angry about every speck of dirt the car runs into. Instead, one should enjoy the process of cleaning it on a regular basis.
