We re-booked our Sunday flight to Monday, then our Monday flight to Wednesday but they have all been cancelled, we've also made three hire car bookings that we've had to cancel too. No great problem compared to the thousands of people still trying to get home. Mr FF is reluctant to admit defeat and concerned that if we don't fly we won't be able to reclaim the money for our return flight next week, which we've already checked in for. I'm of the opinion that getting to Italy is no guarantee of getting back so I'm staying here and Mr FF started work again on Monday so he's not using up holiday allowance.I have finally taken everything out of my half packed suitcase, its now as empty as the airport terminal and I've put my flip flops away for the time being, sad but just the way things happen.
Jenny, I feel your pain, but that idea of adding the extra days to your summer holidays sounds great! More days in Italy with your flip flops!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame. :-( Maybe it's a small consolation that at least you aren't stuck trying to get back home.
ReplyDeleteSorry that your travel plans have been messed up Jenny. At least you have the summer trip to look forward to. In the meantime, I think I'd crack open a bottle of Chianti and tuck into a plate of spaghetti bolognaise as a small compensation.
ReplyDeleteWe should be travelling to the UK this weekend for a few days, some hope at the moment.
ReplyDeleteEasyjet are keeping us informed but all online check ins have been declared invalid and everyone is going to have to report to check in desks, even with carry on luggage.
I think you are probably wise changing your plans as methinks chaos may well reign for weeks!
Meanwhile we wait for Easyjet to actually cancel our flight.
I will let you know ;(
ReplyDeleteJust look forward to the summer and all those extra lovely lazy sunny days! Ros
ReplyDeleteWe're now booked on a flight to Spain on Saturday but I'm not confident. I don't think I'll even bother to pack.
ReplyDeleteBugger. I'm so sorry you've ended up stuck here.
ReplyDeleteHere's to your summer hols being extra long and fabulous instead.
Very disappointing, but you're better safe on the ground than up in the air with a load of dangerous volcanic ash. I think travelling anywhere at the moment will be chaotic, so probably best to let it all calm down and look forward to your summer holidays. That bottle of Chianti sounds like an excellent consolation prize!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear your trip didn't go as planned. We have heard all about it here in the Windy City of Chicago. A major international hub.
ReplyDeleteNew here and loven' the feel....

Lemonade is on the patio waiting for you to join me in the garden.
A great shame, but I think you are wise. My son-in-law is stuck in Dubai - not much hope of a flight yet, either.
ReplyDeleteIt makes you realise just how much we take flying and everything running like clockwork (ish) for granted. What a shame you didnt get away, but a longer summer holiday will be good. My cousin has just spent an enormous amount of money getting back from Europe.
ReplyDeleteYou'll get to wear those flip flops yet, Jenny! So sorry you're trip is delayed... I do feel for you so much. The air ports are still closed here. We are concerned about our trip to the USA in 2 weeks+... Do hope things level out soon and everyone can get to where they need/want to be. More knitting time until you can leave then, 'eh? ;o) ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteBummer! Bummer, bummer, bummer or words to that effect. So sorry your travel plans came to nothing, but as you say, there's nothing you can do about Mother Nature, and at least you're not stuck in an airport in some other country not knowing what's going to happen. I'm keeping a close eye on the situation myself as we're due to fly home in two and a half weeks ourselves. Having a longer summer break sounds wonderful though.

PS. Yes, it was all you!! Actually I got sick of tripping over the Christmas stuff and not having enough time to do other challenges, so I called it a day for now!
Sorry to hear you had to cancel your trip though it could be worse - at least it's not snowing!
ReplyDeleteExtra days in the summer sounds like a great idea.
